Fashion frenzies transforming the highest fashions Thursday, July 16th, 2009

There’s nothing much we can speak about Paris; the city is already an open book. But Paris has yet to open countless chapters on fashion and styles and its something that shall keep the bed warm for many-a-trends to come.

This is why the term haute couture is now been strictly controlled; fashion establishments may now apply the term on their lines only by a special ministerial decree, despite the earlier presence of several hundred such fashion houses during the 1950s. Today, the count has been reduced to just 10. The reason behind is for creating opportunities for young and lesser-known talents, whom, the haute couture club shall call the guest designers. However, the only dilemma that stays present is: In this world where lifestyle has changed rapidly over the past few years, how many shall wait for a considerable period before wearing a chosen dress? Besides, they shall not be from names that are already big in the market.

But on the other hand, the new designers, given a chance to practice their art, shall likely bring forth a fresh breeze that may redefine the future trends and (more…)

Choosing Handbags: Rules of the thumb Saturday, July 11th, 2009

This season demands a perfect combination and that needs you to change your views towards handbags. Now you need to consider your body type as well.

Opposites attract and it applies for choosing your handbag this season; if you are on the flabby side, a thin one shall compliment you the most. And, vice versa.

Those who are tall and thin, shift to the short, slouchy ones (like hobos). The general trend is going after short-strapped shoulder bags (can’t blame; they are very practical), which only make the tallness appear greater. Handbags more on the wider side do the opposite. Try it with clutches, since they don’t have handles and are relatively small, though capable of holding your keys, driving license, few essential cosmetics and if needed, a self-defense weapon. If you don’t find a regular clutch, try the oversized – they are same as the regular clutch but much larger.

The same ways the petite ones tend choosing oversized bags, which overwhelm their frames. So off with the shoulder bags with long straps (let them go to the plus-sized women; it shall balance out their curves), it’s tiny pattern handheld bags that shall suit you the most.  (more…)

We all do it from time to time and even those hating the idea has shopped impulsively at least once in their entire lifetime; else, how do they know impulse buying is bad? But we are just happy with the adrenalin rush impulse shopping makes us experience; the only thing that we stay concerned about is that it stays at par with the fast fashion of the current times, not just an individual’s preferences for downbeat dressing or safe and predictable clothes. 2009 is more of a year for purchases that really count. So welcome the new trend of longevity through fashion; this is the time to go for the extreme, original designs.
The trend has brought back the Prada spring collection (lipstick-print skirts, the knits and the bowling bags catching attention more than others) from 2000; the clumpy boots with a lot of straps from Tom Ford’s Peasant collection (2001) and the mesh-backed, ribbon-tied necklaces (Lanvin’s, spring 2003). However, you may pose a question here: Agreed that the styles returned in 2009, but what’s the surety that they shall march on to 2010 and beyond?

We may quote the art and antique experts here: (more…)
